Battling Hummingbirds

 
Hummingbirds are aggressive and protect their territories fiercely.

Dragonfly

I like the complicated colors on the segmented tail.  The head also has an excellent color scheme.

Dragonflies are quick in flight and change direction often. I like the way the legs fold underneath.

Dragonfly at Coal Oil Point. The eyes on these remind me of sonar bow arrays on submarines: sort of wrap-around sensor arrays.

Hydroids

What are these little beetle-like creatures on the hydroids?  I'd been looking for pycnogonids but the ripping current during tide change, there next to the "potato patch" between Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa, cut short the shooting. 

Squinting Swell Shark

For some reason this swell shark seems to have a mean expression in its eye.  The belly looks a little swollen too -- maybe it is getting ready to do its namesake trick and swell up.
